【Chubu Wastewater Treatment Facility】

A cutting-edge facility that produces hydrogen-based car fuel from sewage!

This facility is the first in the world to actively refine hydrogen from sewage for use in fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), a type of eco-car. As part of the first phase of Fukuoka’s “Hydrogen Leader City Project” here you can inspect the technologies developed jointly by Kyushu university, Mitsubishi, and Toyota. Innovative and environmentally friendly, this is a must see!

【Uminonakamichi Nata Sea Water Desalination Center】

Visit Japan’s largest and most prolific seawater desalination plant.

At a whopping 50,000 m3 of fresh water produced daily, the Uminonakamichi desalination plant is the largest of its kind in Japan. Here you will find highly advanced technology designed with durability, longevity, and quality of water in mind. In this on-site inspection you can check in on all of these systems and even compare the flavor of the factory’s fresh water with that of tap water to really taste the difference!

Asahi is one of Japan’s largest breweries, founded in 1889. Asahi played a large role in the rise of the Japanese beer industry, and is responsible for introducing the first Japanese dry-tasting draft beer, the Asahi Super Dry in 1987. The beer revolutionized the industry and is now a firm staple in Japan and beyond. Each brewery across Japan is eligible for a group inspection course where you will be guided through the brewery process and learn some unique trivia.

If Fukuoka is known for one thing food-wise it’s Tonkotsu Ramen. A Chinese type noodle is cooked in a rich pork bone broth for a rich and savory bowl of comfort. Here you can make your own noodles and dumplings using a special flour developed and perfected through years of research in Fukuoka prefecture. Once you’re done making your noodles you can then cook and eat them!

In the Edo period the Hakata-ori textile style was one of the favorites of the Shogun class. In the exhibition hall there are a wide range of items on display, from traditional kimonos to modern products using the hakata-ori style.
