Maizuru Koen “Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival” Lighting-Up and Lots More Events!


Fukuoka Castle Ruins will be colored spectacularly with lots of cherry blossoms of about 1000 sakura trees.

During the festival, they’ll be lit up fantastically and various events will be held. “Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival” is beautiful day and night, so don’t miss it!

■ Lighting-Up Hours: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
The walls of Fukuoka Castle and cherry blossoms will be lit up spectacularly with color LED source. 

■ Lighting-up Ceremony
[Date and Time] Saturday, March 25 Begins at 6:20 p.m.
[Venue] Korokan Hiroba

■ Pay Lighting-Up (some areas in the festival venue)
[Hours] 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (admission: till 9:45 p.m.)
[Venue] Sakura-En, Otaka-Yashiki-Ato, Tamon-Yagura
[Fee] 300 Yen/ venue, 600 Yen/ 3 venues (high-school age and under: free)
* Otaka-Yashiki-Ato and Tamon-Yagura are normally closed during night but will be open especially during the festival. Please enjoy fantastic spaces created with lights and music. Lighting-up at Sakura-En around the foundation of the castle tower is free until 6 p.m. and after that there is an admission fee.

■ Events at Korokan Hiroba 
Various events will be held at Korokan Hiroba (the old Heiwadai Stadium) during the festival.

◆ “Special Opening to the Public of Historical Architectures of Fukuoka Castle (Tamon-Yagura, etc.)” 
Saturday, March 25, Sunday, March 26, Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, April 2
10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

◆ “Fukuoka Castle/ Korokan Collecting Stamps” 
Saturday, March 25 – Monday, April 3 
Lottery Reception: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

◆ “Pop Culture Fan Thanks Giving Festival ~Sakura Campaign of Fukuoka Castle ~” This is an event that pop culture such as animation, cartoons, etc., and “Wa (Japanese)” and history are fused together. 
Saturday, March 25, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

◆ “Horseback Riding Experience: Feeling like a Samurai” (Pay) You will be wearing a Samurai armor and strolling through the park on a horse. 
Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

A lot more events other than those above will be held!

■ Sakura Gourmet Food Stall (Pay)
[Time and Date] Saturday, March 25 – Monday, April 3, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. 
A variety of gourmet food stalls and 90 food trucks will all get together. You can enjoy tasting the different kinds of food from famous café and dining, Italian restaurants, Izakaya taverns, etc. in the city.

Fukuoka Castle Ohori Festival

[Date and Time] Sunday, March 26 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. (tentatively)
[Venue] Korokan Hiroba
Samurai parade dressed up like samurai warriors of Fukuoka Domain in Edo Period will march along the street from Terumo Shrine in Nishi Koen to KorokanHiroba and then perform dances including “Aratsu-no Mai” on the festival stage.

Nishitetsu Bus: get off at “Otemon” or “Heiwadai Korokan-Mae”, 5 – 8 minute walk.
Fukuoka City Subway: get off at “Akasaka” or “Ohori Koen”, 8 minute walk.
*Traffic congestion will be expected around the festival venue, please use the public transportations when coming to the festival.
