Let your group be welcomed to Fukuoka in a truly memorable way by the city’s famed Omotenashi Bushotai performance group. They will greet you dressed as Fukuoka samurai commanders like Kuroda Kanpei, a prominent daimyo lord, who, along with his son Nagamasa is credited for building the foundations of Fukuoka. The performers also lead other programs, including a stage performance and history lectures.
Hakata-ori is a beautiful traditional textile that has been much loved since the Edo period. The textiles are still made to this day, and visitors can tour the workshop where they are created. There are also educational materials to learn about the history of Hakata-ori, and exhibits to see traditional kimono and modern Hakataori items. Tour participants can buy Hakata-ori products at exclusive manufacturer prices.
Work up a sweat in one of Japan’s largest indoor experience facilities, where exercise meets entertainment. The entire facility totals an area of approximately 4,000㎡ and has 16 different activities to choose from. In this program, you can experience making your unique, incredibly realistic “fake” Japanese dish or sweets and learn about the meticulous techniques used in its creation. The results won’t be edible, but your hunger for creativity and cultural experience will surely be satisfied.
Visit an esteemed sake brewery that received the Champion Sake top prize at the International Wine Challenge 2013, and continues to make delicious drinks year on year. On the tour you can see how the sake is made, and learn about the different customs and traditions associated with the process. You can of course sample sake and shochu, too, or buy a bottle that catches your eye. *Inside tours unavailable on some days.
